09/02/2001: Success for Winter Beer Festival
Great success for the Winter Beer Festival of February, 3 in Cavaso
del Tomba in Veneto. Organized by Soci dea Bira - a local club of clever and enthusiast homebrewers - this festival attracted hundred of people, maybe almost a thousand, which delighted on very good food and above all appreciated the high quality beer home-produced by "Soci" themselves
This event is happening every winter since several years, and is a private festival on invitation; it is anyway attracting a great number of people, so much that homebrewers and beer enthusiast have come not only from the surroundings but also from Genova, Torino and even Rome!
Next meeting at the end of next June for another festival, always organized by Soci dea Bira; this one will be a public festival, based not on homebrew but commercial beer - anyway a very good beer from a German brewery in Bayern.
09/02/2001: New Denomination for Abbey Beers
Besides the beers by the seven (or six..) original well known trappist breweries - directly produced in the monastery and/or under strict control by the monks, and labelled as "Authentic
Trappist Products" - a new logo has been created, to be awarded only to some of the "Abbey beers": the "Belgian beer of recognized Abbey".
These are beers that, though not produced by monks, are related to existent abbeys to which they pay royalties for the name, and sometimes using their recipes.
There is not actual relationship to quality: e.g, the good Abbaye de Rocs is not featured (the style would be close but the name is not related to actual abbeys) but some more commercial beers are. Here are the beers:
Dendermonde (De block);
Affligem (De smedt);
Bonne espérance (Lefebvre);
Bornem (Van Steenberge);
Cambron (Silly);
Ename (Roman);
Floreffe (Lefebvre);
Grimbergen (Alken Maes);
Keizersberg (Van Steenberge);
Leffe (Interbrew);
Maredsous (Moortgat);
Postel ( De smedt);
St Feuillien (Friart);
St Pietersabdij (De gouden boom);
Steenbrugge (De gouden boom);
Tongerlo (Haacht);
Val Dieu (Val Dieu);
